MAUI MODERN
Maui
The home of artist Abigail Romanchak, a printmaker born and raised on Maui, and a house shaped almost entirely by family. It was designed with her brother, architect Alika Romanchak of Romanchak Architecture, and its landscape was planted by her twin brother, Ethan Romanchak of Maui Native Nursery, in native species that tie the property to the island's ecology.

Abigail led the design herself, with Avery Design Studio in an advisory role. The rooms carry the same clarity and restraint as her prints, which draw on conservation, ʻike Hawaiʻi, and ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi.
Her own work hangs alongside pieces by artists she has met throughout her life, and an on-site studio keeps her practice within the daily life of the house. The result belongs unmistakably to Maui, and to the family that built it.
